That's correct folks. Film Society at The Guildhall tonight, new start time is 7.30pm so watch out.

The film is The Boat That Rocked, Richard Curtis film based on Radio Caroline.

The Windjammer, Dartmouth Film Societies official public house has kindly become a sponsor and so they get a zazzy new slide tonight, hey!

This is their very cheery log fire, very welcome on a wet January evening. Thanks Andy.

Sunday 9th January (soon be Easter!)...

So a quick recap of the weekend. Friday night Laura & Cody came to stay we had roast chicken at home, delicious.
Saturday they left around 4.30pm, sad now.

6pm, we take the Lower Ferry across to Kingswear to meet cousin Tony and his wife Anne in The Ship Inn for a meal. They were down from Bristol for the weekend. The Ship Inn is a great local pub made even better by having a Ferry ride over the river and back every time you go there. Make sure you use the Lower Ferry, it drops you about 75 yds from their front door.

Ended up having Game Pie & chips which was brilliant, so tasty. The beer was excellent, Youngs bitter & Otter best. Also they have a real, proper fire:

So that was very jolly and we still like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones!

Today we drove up to the fantastic Jack In The Green Inn at Rockbeare, near Exeter Airport on the old A30. This is a great place to stop either on the way down to or on the home from Dartmouth.
It is roughly half way between Bristol and Exeter about an hour from either.

The food is stunning and the service is 1st class. Before we moved to Dartmouth we used to stop here for a meal on the way home to Somerset, to make the 'break' last just a bit longer. but be warned, you have to book.

Finally just to cheer you up here is a picture of a wonderful group who came busking to Dart Music Festival this summer. Well it was a bit of an Indian summer?

7 January 2011

2011 starts here....

Been on holiday this week, meaning getting over man-flu! So not much doing.

Had a Dart Music Festival sponsors sub-committee meeting on Wednesday evening in The Windjammer. Excellent pint of Legend, good chums and a log fire. What's not to enjoy? (oh, and we had to do some committee stuff, Pam insisted...)

Weather lousy, raining buckets but still good to walk along the embankment and love the river. I must admit I've cheated here and shown a picture I prepared earlier, from July in fact.

But it's much nicer than a cold rain swept January photo.

Almost makes you feel warm just looking at it.

Started getting taking bookings again, so the phone wasn't broken! Already booked one room for Regatta, in August and one for Music Festival in May.

So if you are thinking of escaping to Dartmouth sometime this year listen up:
plan your visit; book your accommodation and you can do both with the Discover Dartmouth Guide from the Tourist Office.  And do it today, otherwise you may not get to stay where you would like! Simple. Good luck.

1 January 2011

2011, Welcome to New Years day.

So, had a bit of a lie in this morning and feel strangely tired. Don't understand, was only out until about 2.30am yesterday/today.
We had to go to the Royal Castle Hotel (RCH) New Year bash because they had gone to a lot of trouble and it would have been rude to refuse!

Lots of fancy dress about, as usual. Most of our chums went on a loose theme of Witches. So Val went as a green witch with an angry clockface around her neck (Greenwitch Mean Time!) and I went as The Wichita Lineman (Iknow, I know...) and we looked great. Some of our chums didn't bother dressing up at all!  See below:

Everyone had a jolly good time and hardly anyone got arrested. Good fireworks from the RCH roof at midnight as per norm and then an added treat this year.
The higher ferry decided to put on a great display from the ferry itself moored in the centre of the river and these took off around 12.15am
Great display and just warm enough to stay outside going ooh & aah.

battery ran out in my camera then so to see pictures try our Facebook page.
